Sortie Urban Sketchers - les ruelles du Mile End

Une magnifique journée avec le groupe des Urban Sketchers dimanche le 23 avril dans Le Mile End

J'ai choisi d'arpenter les pittoresques ruelles du quartier à la recherche de points de vue intéressant pour dessiner.

En avant-midi j'ai dessiné avec ma plume Rotring Art Pen et/ou un crayon noir soluble à l'eau,  dans un carnet Robert Bateman, de format 11x7 pouces.   Les croquis ont été rehaussés au pastel Caran d'Arches, à l'aquarelle, ou encore aux marqueurs aquarelle Winsor&Newton et mon pinceau avec réservoir d'eau pour les lavis.    Ce papier n'est malheureusement pas très réceptif aux techniques à l'eau. 

En après-midi, j'ai choisi de travailler uniquement avec ma plume Rotring Art Pen et mon pinceau avec réservoir d'eau dans un carnet de croquis pour le dessin, format 5.5x8.5 pouces (11x8.5 en double page), avec pour inspiration une autre ruelle du quartier. 

Quelle formidable journée de croquis, et des plus inspirante la rencontre en fin de journée pour regarder les croquis de tous et chacun.

When sketching with a pen I prefer a smooth surface paper.  For these sketches I used the hot pressed 140 paper Arches Aquarelle Carnet de Voyage, 6 x 10 inches in size.

My sketching kit consists of my old favorite Rotring Artpen with its watersoluble ink cartridges.  I quite often dilute the ink with a Holbein Waterbrush pen. The plastic barrel of the waterbrush pen is filled with water and you squeeze the barrel to release the water.  The synthetic hair brush tip allows quite a variety of washes, strokes and effects.

I recently started using Derwent Inktense Blocks which are watersoluble ink blocks that can be used dry or diluted with the waterbrush to create colour patterns or washes. They are very easy to carry around, and the colour effects can be very light or quite intense, as desired.
